I purchased this #87 Radio Flyer Pedal Car for my son for his 3rd birthday in August 2005. He loves the car and has hours of fun with it. My 7-year-old son also rides on it and has tons of fun. However, it is already looking very worn out. Within two weeks of giving it as a gift, there were two broken pieces. First, one of the pedals broke off, then the front "bumper" was torn off going around a corner and catching on the stairs. I called up Radio Flyer and they sent out replacement parts without any hassle and for free since it is still under warranty. We did put the replacement pedal on, but didn't put the "bumper" on since it was torn off so quickly the first time. I just noticed the other day that the red cover over the screw in the steering wheel has a hole punched in it and one of the screws is missing to hold on the red piece of plastic above the number panel on the front. So, I need to put in another call to Radio Flyer and get some more replacement parts.

All in all, I would say that this was a good purchase for us since I found it on clearance and spent about $37 on it. My boys ride on it every day, rain or shine, and often fight over who gets to ride it. I am a little nervous, though, about how bad this thing will fall apart after the warranty period is over and I will no longer be able to just call for free replacement parts when they break or fall off. We are looking into getting another pedal car for the boys for Christmas, but will not be purchasing this one again, unless I find it on clearance somewhere.

I was torn as to whether I should recommend this. My sons have tons of fun on it, but it just doesn't hold up to their daily use. I just don't think it's worth the full $78 that they are asking for it, so I can't recommend it. However, if you should find it on clearance for less than $40, I would say that you should think hard about it and weigh the fun factor against it's ability to hold up for any length of time and have to be willing to call for replacement parts during the warranty period.

The reason I gave this 3 stars instead of the 2 it deserves is because it's earned it with all the hours of fun it's given my sons despite it's inability to hold up.

This Radio Flyer pedal car is a recent acquisition. I really don't know much about it. Does anyone have any info such as how old it may be, etc.? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Pros: Fun for the kids

Cons: Parts constantly break; too expensive for its poor quality
